Bikaner said to have Own Airport















Bikaner: Giving wings to the long-cherished dream of having air connectivity to this town, the chief minister, Ashok Gehlot, laid the foundation stone of the civil airport terminal on Monday afternoon. The airport would be made near the existing air force base at Nal, about 13 km from the city. Due to the hectic schedule of chief minister the ceremony was organized at the Dr Karni Singh Stadium.
The chief minister landed at the Border Security Force (BSF) helipad and headed straight to the Karni Singh Stadium. Addressing a crowd, the CM said that the proposed airport would boost tourism and industries in and around Bikaner.
He said that his government has signed a memorandum of understanding with a UAE-based company to develop a Rs 45,000-crore silicon complex in Bikaner. He said that the Centre would give a subsidy of Rs 10,000 crore in the silicon project. It would employ about 10,000 persons directly. The chairman of the Airports Authority of India, V P Agarwal, said that the proposed airport would have a 106 X7 6 mt apron for simultaneous use of 250-seat aircraft.
Agarwal asked the state government to provide an additional 35 acre against the proposed 20 acre land so that additional facilities and future expansion of the airport is ensured. The ceremony was attended by the government chief whip Virendra Beniwal, former chief of state Congress B D Kalla, former irrigation minister Devi Singh Bhati, Gopal Joshi and industrialist Shiv Ratan Agarwal.
