Airlines getting tied with Websites for Online Ticketing

Mumbai: Caught in the grip of mounting losses, India’s budget airlines are launching special discount offers to woo back passengers ahead of the summer holiday season. Low fare carriers such as SpiceJet, Indigo Airlines, GoAir and Kingfisher Red have tied-up with various online travel portals to offer deals that give consumers cash back on tickets booked through these web sites.
For instance, SpiceJet has tied up with Cleartrip.com and Ezeego1.com to offer 50 per cent and 75 per cent cash back on base fares, respectively. But the customers will have to book their tickets before 19th and 15th of this month to avail of this offer. SpiceJet in association with Yatra.com is also offering 10 per cent cash back for all MasterCard credit holders who have Titanium, Platinum or a World card.
Ezeego1.com’s chief operating officer Neelu Singh said, “Online bookings thrive on deals and offers and with demand for air travel becoming sluggish, the way out is to tempt the customer with offers. Spice Jet offer is one such that we have. We also have 30 per cent cash back on Kingfisher and Kingfisher Red for those booking with ICICI credit and debit cards. We have 15 per cent cash back on flights for those booking with Standard Chartered credit cards.”
GoAir too is offering 10 per cent cash back on the total fare, for tickets booked through Cleartrip before 31st of this month. “All these cash back offers are on basic fares only,” Singh added.
SpiceJet’s fare between Mumbai and Delhi ranges between Rs 9,300-10,000 including Rs 3,000-4,000 basic fare. Booking a ticket through Ezeego1 and Cleartrip could net passengers cash back between Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,200. However, flyers will have to pay Ezeego1 Rs 250 as service charge per ticket, something one doesn’t pay when booking directly on the SpiceJet website.
