Chennai: Air India has successfully carried out ‘2C’ Check with in-house expertise for the first time on an Airbus 330 aircraft, resulting in substantial savings in foreign exchange. After the check the aircraft was test flown in Mumbai on Thursday. The airline has two leased Airbus 330 aircraft in its fleet. The ‘2C’ Check , which involves major component removal, inspection and installation; structural inspection; and detailed operational/functional checks of the system, is carried out on every 36 months elapsed time since last completion of such check, according to a company release.
Air India has been carrying out major checks up to ‘C’/’D’ (heavy maintenance visits) on A319, A320, A321 and A310 aircraft including freighter. This capability has been recently expanded for carrying out ‘C’ Check on B777 aircraft, and now on A330.
